Paint box

Schilderkistje. Made from discarded painting boards. Nice soft wood, free, usable in the router. These painting boxes have a history of painting which i wanted to keep. Now they can be used to store paint.

I also used them for different purposes such as a give away boxes, personalised with a name in a felt inlay

They have precedents: several boxes i made before and tests with boxmaking modules in my cad program with different materials and techniques

I wanted to use my router for boxes:

- clean edges, not scorched sides as with the laser,

- thicker wood can eventually be used

- dovetail joints which make the box more stable.

The boxes can be stacked. Routing and lasercutting offer great opportunities and freedom for joining features. They offer much delight to a designer wanting good looking, practical, feasible and surprising details. Everybody can make a box. But making it a good one needs a keen eye.
