circus set

   

Wth about 12 students of the stedelijke MAVO i constructed a set for the yearly circus performance at their school.

It contained 6 classes / workshops (four at school, two in my studio) on circus shapes and design , making a model and mock ups , working out the design and setting up the job, executing: painting, sawing, bringing it together and finally putting it to stage.

Most successfull and appreciated were the practical parts: preparing the designs for painting, constructing, the painting itself and putting it on stage.

 

 

How does circus look like, what do you see there? Make a drawing of it which can lead us to a design for the set.

A tent, a pony, elephants. A clown.

We used the drawings as starting point.

Beside the tent also props were constructed of flat plywood that could be slotted together, for convenient storage.
