Door Opener

Door opener for Bussemakers huis Borne

For an exhibition an automatically controlled door should open and close during a video.

It must be safe and not disturbing the museum setting.

Designed with electric actuator, a passive infrared detector and manual switches for safety

First design, made with cheap motors, pir and end stops was too light and to noisy to perform well but showed the proper way of making this installation. The final set was constructed with off the shelf linear actuators with integrated end stops, a professional PIR detector and an acoustic shell around the installation. It works well, quiet and reliable.

Test installation. A heavy case filled with sand absorbes vibrations. The controller is situated in a separate enclosure for easier servicing. A magnet connection on the door ensures breaking the connection if something comes between the closing door. A mechanical switch which disconnects the door when the force of the actuator becomes too much ensures safety at opening of the door. An arduino uno is used as controller.
